and its typical high houses |
The Old Dock is the heart of the city. It is the most symbolic place of Honfleur with the very typical high houses all around the dock. The Lieutenance, formerly House of the King's Lieutenant in Honfleur, used to be part of the ramparts surrounding the city and is now almost the only remaining part with the Gate to Caen. Dig in 1684 as ordered by Colbert, the Old Dock is particularly appreciated for its changing light and reflects and still attracts painters and photographers, as it attracted the famous impressionists Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, and many others who followed their steps. |
